Brake Return Springs Mod

Benefit: Keeps your brakes from dragging and costing power.
Part Number For The Brake Springs: N/A

I was cleaning my maxx one day and noticed my brakes seemed to be applied. I moved
the servo to release them. This didnt seem to do anything. When I checked it all out, my
brakes where sticking. The blue staft that goes into the transmission housing was bound up
A tade bit, so I cleaned it. It made it better, but the brass button didnt seem to want to
move back when the brakes were released. That day I was messing with my old fuel tank
and had pulled the primer out of it. Since I had the spring from it, I decided to make some
return springs. I didnt just make the spring pull back on the arm that the servo moves, I put
the springs between the brake pads. I took the old primer spring and cut it into 2 pieces
about equal in length. I then had to trim them a little so that they wouldnt bind and cause
brake failure. To check for the correct spring height, remove the brake disk, put the spring
next to the disk and compress the spring. If the spring is fully compressed and higher than
the disk, you have to trim more off of it. Dont cut any more off than is needed. The spring
only has so much tension and if you cut to much off, they cant to what they need to do. Once
you have the correct spring height, reassemble the brake pad and shaft assembly making
sure that you have one spring on each side of the pads between both pads. Test the brakes
to make sure they still work and adjust them to your liking. The springs will add a little
tension to the entire brake setup and may make your brakes seem a bit weaker than normal.
My brakes worked just fine after the springs were added, but I did have to readjust them.
The springs do their job pefectly and I have not had my brakes drag since I installed them.
I have looked in stores for a spring to use instead of the primer spring, but I havent found
one yet. So if you have an extra primer spring (say you removed the primer or got a new
tank), you now can use it for a brake return spring. Look at it this way, if you have the spring,
it's a free mod!
